Some people prefer to use judges instead of ministers as officiants for their wedding ceremonies. There are numerous reasons that a couple might decide to use a justice of the peace instead of a minister. Justices frequently handle those who have broken minor rules, regulations, and laws such as those that regulate traffic speed. Using a justice of the peace often allows people to avoid court proceedings so that they can accept whatever fines they need to pay and move on.
